1970s Paul Boulva "Cobra" Armchair for Artopex in Chromed Steel and Grey Fabric
This is a "Cobra" Armchair, designed by Paul Boulva for Artopex in Canada in the 1970s. The sculptural armrests resemble wings, adding a bit of excitement to an otherwise innocuous office chair. The steel base swivels nicely, allowing one to use it as a desk chair, or even as a lounge chair. The upholstery is done in a grey-brown tweed.
The design was famously utilized on the set of Star Trek, and has become emblematic for space age chic.
This chair measures 28 inches deep, 26.5 inches wide, and 40 inches high. It has a seat height of 19 inches. The tweedy fabric shows discoloration and some stains, though it may perk up a bit with a steam clean. The base shows patina and some light rust. Overall, the chair remains in good condition.
